Diverticulitis/Anal Sex

I have a friend who has a history of diverticulitis flare-ups. They've been told about diet guidelines, but what about anal sex? If bacteria enters the rectum through any kind of anal play, could the bacteria make its way to the colon where the diverticulum (pouches) are? Thanks.

You would have to ask a doctor about this, but if I had diverticulitis, I would not be engaging in anal sex. I would be concerned about any further damage being done to the bowels, just in terms of further irritation. Your friend should ask his or her doctor first, or just call the local Public Health department or AIDS Committee and talk with an expert.Randy
